What was the motto for America that John Q. Adams declared in his Fourth of July 1821 Address? I don’t know, and I have to answer that question for school. I can’t find the answer anywhere!!!!!!!!!

  2. “America does not go abroad looking for monsters to destoy.” This is in the speech, with many other interesting points.

what was the policy significance of this speech? help plzzz

  4. The most cited portions of this speech have to do with foreign policy. Adams claimed the U.S. government, though favoring freedom movements around the world, “does not go abroad searching for monsters to destroy.”

That was then; this is now. Current US govt. policy (and policy generally since the Spanish-American War), does envision the U.S. going abroad trying to right wrongs where possible and engage in “nation building” from time to time.

Such policies can be questioned on moral and Constitutional grounds. And skeptics can claim such “interventionist foreign policies” tend to backfire.

what is the significance of this?

  6. If by "this" you mean J.Q. Adam's speech, I would just respond that the speech emphasizes what makes the U.S. unique as a nation, or republic, and its domestic and foreign policies different from those of European nations. U.S. foreign policy (and domestic policy) has become much or statist and interventionist in the many decades since this speech was given.

Can anyone tell me when or where John Quincy Adams said this quote? "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."

I have an original ticket to the "Great Anniversary Festival" July 4, 1821 when John Adams gave his speech. It is in remarkable condition and was wondering if anyone knows how to go about selling it??

    Thanks, Leah
